A huge, colourful monument at Barranquilla's north-west entrance on the coastal road to Cartagena, made of towering vertical bars painted in bright graded colours that together form the outline of a great window open to the sky. It was built in 2018 for the Central American and Caribbean Games the city hosted. It symbolises Barranquilla as Colombia's «golden gate» to the sea and the world, its colours inspired by carnival and the folk fabrics of the Caribbean coast. Tens of metres tall, it is visible from far along the road. Around it is a wide plaza with gardens, and people come for photos, especially at sunset when the colours glow, and at night when it is lit in changing colours. The visit is short, usually combined with the Gran Malecón or on the way between Barranquilla and Cartagena. The sun is strong, so evening suits best.
