Villa Carlos Paz is a holiday town in the southern Punilla valley on the western slope of the Sierras Chicas, just 36 kilometres from Córdoba city, which has made it the province's best-known resort. It lies on the southern shore of Lake San Roque, crossed by the San Antonio and Los Chorrillos rivers. Visitors come to swim in rivers and pools, fish, kite- and windsurf on the lake, hike and mountain-bike in the hills, and in summer its theatres fill with evening shows. Among its familiar sights are a giant cuckoo clock in the centre and a chairlift up a hill overlooking the lake. Wandering is free. It is very busy in January, February and holidays; spring and autumn are calmer.
