Villa Gesell is a beach town on the Atlantic coast south of Pinamar, known for its crowded summer beaches and youthful spirit. Its story is unusual: in 1931 and 1932 Carlos Gesell bought sandy coastal land then thought «worthless» and began planting pines to fix the dunes, not to found a town but to supply timber to his family's children's furniture factory. Over time a village, then a town, grew around the forest. Today about 37,000 people live here, many working in tourism, and the population multiplies in summer. A pedestrian street and a long sandy beach run along the sea, pine woods still surround the town, and quieter leafy districts lie to the south. The beaches are free; visit from nearby Pinamar or on their own, in the December to March season.

Both sit among pines and dunes on the Atlantic, but Villa Gesell is busier and livelier in summer, Pinamar calmer and more spacious.
