Villa La Angostura is a small town on the northwest shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi, in the northern part of Nahuel Huapi National Park, ringed by lakes, forests and mountains and nicknamed the Garden of Patagonia. It lies near the Cardenal Samoré border pass to Chile, and the Seven Lakes Route begins here, heading north. It has quiet streets of wooden and stone houses, chocolate and craft shops, and the small bay of Bahía Mansa, from which boats and trails lead to the Quetrihué peninsula and the famous Los Arrayanes forest. In winter the nearby Cerro Bayo becomes a ski resort. It is about an hour's drive from Bariloche, so it suits a day trip or a start to the Seven Lakes Route. Wandering the town is free; the Los Arrayanes forest, inside the national park, has its own fee.
