Villa Traful is a small mountain village on the south shore of Lake Traful, inside Nahuel Huapi National Park, about a hundred kilometres north of Bariloche and sixty from Villa La Angostura. Its Mapuche name means «meeting of two rivers», after the confluence of the Traful and Limay. The village sits in a glacial valley ringed by mountains of nearly two thousand metres, by a long, clear blue lake at about 800 metres. It is quiet, its wooden houses scattered among the trees, far from Bariloche's crowds; visitors come to walk to viewpoints over the lake, fish, paddle and see the «submerged forest» of tree trunks standing under the water. Wandering is free. The road there is beautiful, especially from the Seven Lakes Route side, and partly gravel.
