A museum devoted to kites in Weifang, the city known as the «World Capital of Kites»; it opened in April 1989 after nearly two years of building and is among the first and largest museums of its kind in China. Its galleries, 8,100 square metres in all, trace the kite from ancient China to the present: Weifang's famous kites shaped like birds, butterflies and long dragons made of dozens of sections, and kites brought from around the world, with the largest hung in the atrium. In the folk-craft hall artisans make kites in front of visitors, alongside traditional New Year pictures and paper-cuts, and a cinema hall tells the story of the international kite festival the city holds every spring. Entry is free, and it is open from 9 am to 5 pm, closed on Mondays, per visitor guides. The best time to come is April, when the festival fills the city's sky with kites.

It is held every April, with teams from many countries, when the city's sky fills with giant kites, so hotels book up early for those days.
Weifang has restaurants run by Hui Muslims under the halal sign, while other restaurants may serve pork, so ask before ordering.
