A cable car crossing the deep Vorotan River gorge from Halidzor village to Tatev Monastery, nearly 5.8 kilometres long, opened in 2010 and entered in the Guinness World Records as the world's longest non-stop double-track aerial tramway. The ride takes about twelve minutes, the cabin soaring over forests, villages and the gorge at heights of more than three hundred metres, with rivers and cliffs below, as the monastery slowly approaches on the edge of the plateau in an unforgettable scene. The cable car replaces a long winding mountain road and was part of a project to revive the region and encourage tourism. In the gorge below lies the Devil's Bridge, a natural rock bridge over the river, with warm springs. Tickets are about AMD 10,000 return and AMD 7,000 one way per visitor guides; hours change with the season and it usually closes one day a week for maintenance, so check the official site. Booking ahead is advised in summer.
