One of China's most famous photo spots, a karst hill overlooking a wide bend of the Li River near Xingping, where the river curls between dozens of green cone-shaped peaks in a captivating panorama. Photographers come before dawn for the sunrise, when morning mist rises between the peaks and the sky colours over the river, and the layered peaks look like the washes of a Chinese ink painting fading to the horizon. Visitors climb stone steps to viewing platforms on several levels, each overlooking a different angle of the river bend. Tickets are about CNY 60, and it opens at 04:30 for sunrise watchers until 18:00, per visitor guides. Book a car from Yangshuo in advance to arrive before dawn, and check the weather, as heavy cloud can hide the view.
