A mountain lake in Huairou, north Beijing, that began as a reservoir built in 1959–1962 on the Yanqi River; its name means «the lake where wild geese rest», mountains ring it and a 5-km road circles it. On its northern shore a conference area hosted the 2014 APEC summit and other international meetings, among its buildings a striking round hotel shaped like a rising sun. Around the lake is a park with boardwalks over the water, boats for hire and family rides; the mountains stand clear over the water in the morning and at sunset, and autumn colours cover the hills in October. The park costs CNY 34, with rides and boats extra, and opens from about 8 am to 5.30 pm depending on the season, per visitor guides. It is about an hour and a half by car from central Beijing and pairs easily with the Mutianyu Great Wall.
