The highest peak within Guilin's city limits, about ten kilometres north-east of the centre, rising to 909 m, some 760 m above its surroundings. It is named after a temple to the legendary Emperor Yao built on its western slope in Qin times, and locals also call it «Ox Mountain» for its shape. Unlike the limestone peaks around Guilin, it is a broad, forested earth mountain, and its summit gives a panorama over hundreds of karst peaks around the city. In late spring azaleas of many colours bloom on its slopes, snow sometimes covers the top in winter, and many climb it for the sunrise. Entry to the mountain is free, the chairlift costs CNY 110 return, or 170 to ride up and come down by toboggan, and the lift runs from 8 am to 4 pm, per visitor guides.
