A footbridge with a transparent glass floor spanning the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, opened on 20 August 2016 and, at opening, the world's longest and highest glass bridge: 430 m long, 6 m wide and about 300 m above the canyon floor. It is a metal frame holding more than 120 panels of triple-layered tempered glass and can take about 800 visitors at once, so people walk straight over the void, sometimes asked to wear shoe covers. After the bridge, visitors descend to the canyon floor on paths and steps past waterfalls, streams and green pools, and the tour usually ends with a short boat ride. There is no bridge-only ticket: the combined canyon and bridge ticket is about CNY 178, per visitor guides, and advance booking with your passport is essential, as numbers are limited. The bridge may close in bad weather, and it's not for anyone afraid of heights.
