Three options with three characters: Bačvice is sandy, very shallow and central — for families with small children and anyone who wants to walk there. Žnjan is wide, equipped and less crowded for its size — for a comfortable full day. Bene in Marjan is pine-shaded with deeper water — for real swimming and quiet. All three are free, and the difference is character rather than quality.

Žnjan is Split's largest beach, running about a kilometre east of the city — and the logical choice when Bačvice fills up: enough space to find a spot even at the height of August. The beach has undergone a wide redevelopment in recent years, and is now equipped with a promenade, facilities, shaded areas and water entries suitable for anyone who finds walking on shingle difficult. The surface is mostly shingle with platforms, and the water is clear and deepens gradually. Žnjan is also known as a venue for summer concerts and festivals, which means its atmosphere changes with the day and the hour — a wide family beach by day, and on some nights a loud music space. It is about fifteen minutes from the centre by bus, or a walk along the waterfront from Bačvice.
