Azerbaijan's national carpet museum, holding the world's largest collection of Azerbaijani carpets, on Baku Boulevard in a striking modern building shaped like a rolled-up carpet. Traditional Azerbaijani carpet weaving has been on UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2010. The museum was founded in 1967 and first housed in the Juma Mosque inside the Old City; it moved to another building in 1992 before opening in its present home on the boulevard in 2014. Its collection is named after the renowned carpet designer Latif Karimov. It displays knotted and flat-woven carpets from the weaving schools of Azerbaijan's regions, such as Guba, Shirvan, Ganja and Gazakh, with geometric and floral patterns and rich colours, from antique pieces to modern works, along with jewellery, costumes, vessels and applied art. Its halls explain weaving techniques and natural dyes. Tickets are about 10 AZN per visitor guides, the museum usually closes on Mondays, and guided tours are available for a fee. One to two hours is enough, and it combines easily with the boulevard and the nearby Old City.
