A bird park in Singapadu opened in 1995, with more than a thousand birds of hundreds of species, many from Indonesia and Papua, in carefully landscaped tropical gardens of palms, flowers and ponds, and large aviaries that visitors walk through among free-flying birds. Highlights include the colourful birds of paradise from Papua, hornbills, parrots and giant cassowaries, along with daily shows of birds of prey and colourful species, and a reptile section with Komodo dragons. The place is calm and shady, good for slow walks and photography. Entry is about three hundred and eighty-five thousand rupiah for foreign adults and about one hundred and ninety thousand for children; booking online is sometimes cheaper. Bali's tourist levy, one hundred and fifty thousand rupiah per foreign visitor, is separate. Two to three hours is enough; come in the morning to catch the daily shows. It is near Bali Zoo, so visitors pair the two in one day with children.
