An outdoor pool of natural hot spring water at the foot of Sulphur Mountain above the town of Banff, its mineral-rich water rising from deep in the mountain, the highest hot springs in Canada by elevation, looking out on snow-capped Rocky Mountain peaks. Hot springs were the reason Banff park exists at all: railway workers came upon them in the 1880s, and the government set the area aside as a reserve in 1885, the seed of Canada's first national park. The present stone bathhouse dates from the 1930s. The nicest time to swim is in the evening or in winter, when steam rises off the warm water and snow falls around it. The pool is run by Parks Canada and reopened in spring 2026 after seven months of repairs. Entry is about C$19.75 per adult, bought on site with no advance booking, per visitor guides, and swimsuits and towels can be rented. It is a mixed public pool, and its hours change with the season on the Parks Canada site.
