**A Baroque church with a densely carved front at the foot of Monte Urgull — standing at the end of the only street that survived the fire of 1813** — in the heart of the old town. Built in the **18th century** in sandstone, ⚠ **its front is among the densest in the Basque Country**: **a great doorway framed by columns, statues and carving**, **with Saint Sebastian at its centre**. ⚠ **Its position carries meaning**: **it stands at the end of Calle 31 de Agosto** — ✅ **the one street left standing when the city burned**; **so it and the church at the street's other end are genuinely among the city's oldest fabric**. ✅ **Inside it is dark and solemn**, with a gilded Baroque altarpiece. ⚠ **And from in front of it you look up to the statue of Christ** on the summit — **a deliberate visual axis**.

**A morning on the beach and the hills, an evening on pintxos — the city is small, flat and all walkable.** ✅ **Morning**: **walk the promenade along La Concha** from the old town westward — ✅ **level, lovely and about 25 minutes** — **as far as the *Comb of the Wind*** at the end. ✅ **Then take the funicular up Igueldo** from there for the classic view. ✅ **Afternoon**: **come back to the old town**, ✅ **and climb Monte Urgull** (free, 25 minutes) **for the other view and the museum**; ✅ **or rest on the beach** — ⚠ **and check the tide**. ✅ **⚠ And the evening is the event**: **a pintxo round in the old town from 20:00** — ✅ **one or two at each bar and then move on**; **Calle 31 de Agosto and around it**. ⚠ **Do not sit down or ask for a menu** — **stand at the bar, take from the display and order the hot ones off the board**. ✅ **⚠ And with a second day**: **cross to the Gros quarter** and the other beach (Zurriola, ✅ **the surf beach**), **or Chillida-Leku** outside the city, **or a trip to Bilbao** (an hour). ⚠ **And the city is expensive** — among the dearest in Spain for rooms and food.
