An enclosed Italian-style square in Batumi's old town, opened in 2010 and ringed by colourful buildings with arches, balconies and decorated windows, with a tall red and white brick clock tower in one corner, like a slice of a European town on the Black Sea. The square's floor is laid with colourful mosaic, cafés and restaurants line its sides and set tables out in summer, and in the evening it hosts open-air concerts and shows, making it one of the city's liveliest spots. Europe Square, the Medea statue and the seafront boulevard are steps away. The square is always open and free. Restaurants around it serve Georgian and international dishes; Batumi has a mosque and halal restaurants nearby, as Adjara has a large Muslim community. Prices on the square are a little higher than in the surrounding streets. Come on a summer evening when the buildings light up and the music starts, then stroll to the boulevard to see the illuminated Alphabetic Tower.
