In the peak summer months usually yes: the park authority runs a free booking system with a daily cap to protect the site. The scheme and its dates change yearly, so check the official Calanques park site before your trip rather than on the day. Outside the season there is normally no booking.
Carry more water than you think, wear closed shoes with a good sole rather than sandals, and avoid midday in summer — there is almost no shade on the path. Check the park's closure status on the morning of your trip: trails close entirely on windy or high fire-risk days, and fines for breaching that are substantial.

A narrow rocky inlet — a calanque — in the Calanques National Park south of Marseille, with exceptionally clear water enclosed by white limestone cliffs. Sugiton is among the closest calanques to the city and the most reachable on foot, which is what made it famous — and threatened. Heavy visitor pressure led the park authority to impose a compulsory free booking system during the peak summer months, with a limited number of visitors per day, to protect the site from erosion. That point is practical and decisive: without a booking in season you may be turned back. The system changes from year to year — check the Calanques park site before planning. The path from the Luminy car park descends for about an hour and includes rocky sections needing proper shoes. The belvedere partway down gives the famous view: the inlet from above in its turquoise colour. An important warning: the park closes entirely on days of strong wind and summer fire risk. Check the closure status on the morning of your trip.
