For a stay of three days or more wanting a green break or a morning run: yes, especially in autumn. For a two-day visitor: the centre's sights come first. For families: the weekend outing on the lake and ferry is enjoyable. Combine it with Avenue Louise for luxury shopping on the way.

The Bois de la Cambre is Brussels' great natural park โ 120 hectares of landscaped woodland at the end of the elegant Avenue Louise, and in fact the tip of the huge UNESCO-listed Sonian Forest (ancient European beech forests) stretching south of the city. The engineer Keilig designed it in 1861 in the English style with winding paths, lawns and a lake. Its heart is a lake with a small island reached by a little ferry, holding the famous "Chalet Robinson" restaurant โ a classic Bruxellois weekend outing. Paths for running, cycling and riding, lawns for picnics, and in autumn the beech colours are enchanting. Some of its roads close to cars at weekends, becoming pedestrian. Twenty minutes by tram from the centre (end of Avenue Louise) โ for a break from the city, sport and families, or as a gateway to exploring the wider Sonian Forest.
