The Laranjeiras cable car at Parque Unipraias is one of Balneário Camboriú's best-known attractions, linking the city's central beach with Laranjeiras beach over the Aguada hill, cloaked in Atlantic Forest. It opened in August 1999 and carried more than four million visitors in its first ten years. It has three stations: Barra Sul at the southern end of the central beach, Morro da Aguada on the hilltop, and Laranjeiras, a hundred metres from the sea. Forty-seven cabins, each holding eight people, travel a 3,250-metre route at 16 kilometres an hour. The highlight is the view from above of the city's skyline of soaring towers and its bay. The summit station has forest trails, lookouts and adventure activities, and from there visitors descend to quiet Laranjeiras beach for a swim. Ride before sunset to see the city lights come on.
