The Bosque Alemão (German Wood), opened in 1996 on the former Schaffer family farm, honours the culture and traditions that German immigrants brought to Curitiba from 1833. Its 38,000 m² of dense native forest hide a fairy-tale route: the Hansel and Gretel trail for children and the Casa Encantada, with a children's library and weekend storytelling. Other features include the Oratório de Bach, a concert hall in a replica of an old church; the Torre dos Filósofos, a lookout tower over the preserved forest; the Praça da Cultura Germânica; and a reproduction of the façade of the Casa Mila, an early-20th-century German building from the city centre. Open daily 6:00-20:00; free.
