One of Bali's loveliest easy walks, a paved path along the spine of a grassy ridge between two deep valleys, each with a river, starting minutes from central Ubud. You walk about two kilometres among tall grasses and coconut palms, with green forest falling away on both sides. The walk begins at the old Gunung Lebah temple where the rivers meet, climbs gently onto the ridge and ends in Bangkiang Sidem village among rice fields and small cafes overlooking them. Villagers use the path daily, so you pass farmers and children on their way. The walk is free and always open. There is no shade on the ridge, and the sun is strong after nine in the morning. Come at sunrise or just before sunset, when the light softens and the air cools, with water and comfortable shoes. Then sit in a cafe among the rice fields at the end of the path.
