A towering range overlooking Dali from the west, with nineteen peaks, eighteen of them over 3,500 m, the highest being Malong at 4,122 m; it's known for a rich variety of plants documented by researchers since the nineteenth century. Along its eastern slopes runs the Jade Cloud Road, a paved walkway built in 1991–1992 at about 2,600 m, passing waterfalls, streams and forest and looking down on the old town and Erhai Lake. Three cableways climb the mountain, the longest being the Ximatan cableway, which rises to a small mountain lake near the peaks, with cold air and wide views, and snow in winter. The Ximatan cableway with entry costs about CNY 260 off-season and 320 in season, per visitor guides, with the other cableways cheaper. Bring warm clothes, as it's much colder up high, and watch for altitude symptoms.
