The Museu Casa de Cora Coralina keeps the home and memory of the poet Cora Coralina, whose verses about her town and its traditions made Goiás known across Brazil. The house, known as the Casa Velha da Ponte (Old House by the Bridge), stands on the bank of the Rio Vermelho. It was built in the mid-18th century to collect the Royal Fifth, the Crown's tax on gold, and later belonged to her father, the judge Francisco Lins dos Guimarães Peixoto. Its walls are of wattle-and-daub and adobe, in the Brazilian colonial manner, and the Cora Coralina Foundation opened the museum in 1989. Tickets are R$15, cash only; it opens Tuesday to Saturday 9:00-16:40 and Sunday 9:00-12:40, closed on Mondays.
