One of the largest shopping centres in South-East Asia, at the Ratchaprasong intersection in the heart of Bangkok's shopping district, spread over eight floors with hundreds of international and Thai brand stores, department stores, a cinema, and restaurants and cafes of every cuisine. Covered skywalks link it to the Chit Lom and Siam Skytrain stations and neighbouring malls, so you can move between several centres without stepping into the heat. In front is a broad plaza hosting events and seasonal markets, most famously the New Year's Eve countdown, and it is decked in striking lights in festive seasons. Entry is free, and it opens daily from ten in the morning until ten at night. Bangkok's big malls usually have prayer rooms and halal counters in their food courts, so ask at the information desk. Tourists can reclaim VAT on purchases above a threshold, so ask for the refund form when paying. Weekday mornings are quietest, Friday evenings and holidays busiest. It is a perfect refuge from rain and heat, and pairs with nearby Siam Paragon and SEA LIFE.
