Antonina is a small town on the bay that bears its name on Paraná's coast, near Morretes and on the route of the famous train from Curitiba. The national heritage institute has protected its historic centre since 2012 for its historic, architectural and landscape value, a mix of colonial, eclectic and art deco buildings. The town's highest point is crowned by the mother church of Nossa Senhora do Pilar, the first nucleus of settlement, whose main chapel opened in the early 18th century, with sources differing on the year; it and other churches in town are under restoration. The town also has old houses along the waterfront and a municipal theatre. Antonina suits a quiet walk among its colourful houses and the bay, and can be paired with a day in Morretes and the train ride. Check building hours before visiting.
