A large night zoo at the foot of Doi Suthep mountain south-west of the city, where visitors tour after sunset in open trams between animal zones, seeing animals active in the evening under soft lighting. It is one of Chiang Mai's favourite family activities. The tram tour is divided into two zones: the savanna with African animals such as giraffes, zebras and rhinos, and the predator zone with tigers, lions and bears. The park also has a walking trail around a lake, musical fountain and light shows, and daytime activities for children. The official price for foreigners for the night tour is about eight hundred baht per adult and four hundred per child, with children under a hundred centimetres free. The park opens from midday, and night tours run after sunset until about ten. Book a seat on the first night tour to avoid the crowds, and bring a light jacket as the trams are open. Allow a full evening, and take a taxi as the park is outside the city.
