One of China's largest open safari parks, in Panyu in southern Guangzhou, part of the Chimelong resort, which also has an amusement park, a circus and a water park; thousands of animals from hundreds of species live here in large enclosures that mimic their natural habitats. Visitors tour the open section on a small train among giraffes, zebras, rhinos and lions, then continue on foot through areas of rarer animals, including white tigers, koalas and giant pandas; in 2014 the park saw the rare birth of panda triplets. Animal shows and giraffe-feeding spots break up the day, making it ideal for families with children; it takes most of a day, and the resort has hotels for those combining it with the amusement park on one trip. Tickets are about CNY 293 per adult, rising to about 350 on special days and holidays, per visitor guides; buying online in advance is best. Metro Line 3 runs to Hanxi Changlong station, arriving at opening beats the queues and the heat, and check food ingredients at the park's restaurants.
