A monument on the western extension of Chang'an Avenue, built to welcome the new millennium, with work starting in November 1998. It covers 4.5 hectares, with Yuyuantan Park to the north and Beijing West railway station to the south, and its main structure takes the form of a giant sundial. The building pairs a fixed colonnade with a round, tilted platform that can rotate, approached from the south along a 262 m path of bronze plates, each standing for one year of Chinese history. It also houses the World Art Museum, which hosts art exhibitions from around the world. General exhibitions are free with a ticket requested with an ID card or passport, open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm, last entry 4.10 pm, while special exhibitions are ticketed, per visitor guides.
