One of Beijing's largest parks, about 137 hectares, 61 of them water, between the Third Ring Road and the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in the west of the city; its lake was made by the Qianlong Emperor in 1773, who brought spring water from the Fragrant Hills and built a palace for short stays beside it. It is known for its cherry blossom festival, held every spring from mid-March to mid-May, when thousands of trees flower around the lake; the Central Radio and TV Tower rises in view, and walking paths and boats line the shores. Tickets are CNY 2, or 10 during the cherry blossom festival, and it is open from 6.30 am to 9.30 pm in spring and autumn, per visitor guides. During the festival go early, before 8 am.
