Cologne is a traditional museum you walk freely, with a chocolate fountain and a cocoa greenhouse. Here it is a short guided tour with heavy tasting and making your own bar. Cologne is broader; this is more hands-on.
Very much so, especially the hands-on part. But the tour is ninety minutes in a fixed order, which is long for very young children who cannot wait.

Chocoversum is a chocolate museum in central Hamburg, but it does not work like an ordinary museum: entry is by guided tour only, at set times, lasting about ninety minutes. The tour follows chocolate from bean to bar. It starts with real cocoa beans that you taste raw, then moves through roasting, grinding and mixing, with a tasting at almost every stage. The last part is the best known: you make your own bar. You pick toppings from a large rack โ nuts, dried fruit, spices โ and the bar is poured, cooled and yours to take away. Because entry is by tour only, booking ahead matters, especially in holiday periods. Tours run in German and English, and it is worth confirming the language of yours when you book.

Bitter and completely unexpected โ it shows how far the bean travels before it becomes chocolate.
Roasting and grinding machines working in front of you, with a taste at nearly every step.
