Cidade das Artes Bibi Ferreira is a cultural complex in the heart of Barra da Tijuca in western Rio de Janeiro, designed by the French architect Christian de Portzamparc. It holds one of the largest concert halls in Brazil, is home to the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra and is one of the state's leading music venues. The project was unveiled in October 2002 as the «Cidade da Música», with a budget of 80 million reais and opening due at the end of 2004, but cost and timeline multiplied: it was inaugurated unfinished in December 2008 and opened officially on 16 May 2013 under its current name, after about 518 million reais of investment and much controversy. It spans roughly 90,000 square metres, with the great hall for orchestra and opera, a chamber theatre, an electroacoustic hall and rehearsal rooms. Its raised terrace gives a panoramic view over Barra da Tijuca. Go for a concert or for the architecture; check the programme.
