The Cine Teatro Ouro Verde is a cultural venue in central Londrina with halls for cinema, dance, music and theatre, run by the State University of Londrina, in a building listed as state heritage. It opened on 24 December 1952 on the initiative of the businessman Celso Garcia Cid and became known as the most luxurious cinema in Brazil. Its name, «green gold», refers to coffee, then at the height of its boom in the city. It was designed by the architect Vilanova Artigas, bought by the university in 1978, and since the 1980s it has hosted shows of the Londrina International Festival. On 12 February 2012 a major fire destroyed much of the building. It was rebuilt with state funds, keeping the features of Artigas's original design, and reopened in June 2017 with 790 seats after the stage was enlarged and access improved. Check the programme.
