A long modern waterfront on the Bay of Panama, built on land reclaimed from the sea, running for kilometres from the edge of the old quarter to Punta Paitilla, with paths for walking, jogging and cycling, gardens, sports courts and benches under palms. Its best feature is the view of modern Panama City's skyline, one of Latin America's most dramatic, with soaring glass towers at the water's edge, while the domes of Casco Viejo and cargo ships waiting in the bay show on the other side. The waterfront fills in the evenings and at weekends with families, joggers and vendors. Its newer section includes a sea viaduct curving around the old quarter. Nearby is the popular fish market, Mercado de Mariscos, with simple restaurants. The best time is at sunset and after, when the tower lights sparkle on the water. It is hot and humid all year, with heavy afternoon rain from May to November, so carry water and an umbrella.
