Constantine's finest viewpoint, on a high plateau north of the old town, where a stone memorial in the form of a triumphal arch topped by a winged statue stands, built in the 1930s in memory of the victims of the First World War. What draws visitors is less the memorial itself than the stunning view from it: the Sidi M'Cid suspension bridge in its full span over the gorge, the old town clinging to the edge of the rock, the Rhumel winding at the bottom and the surrounding mountains. Visitors reach the plateau on foot across the Sidi M'Cid bridge, by car or by the cable car that crosses the gorge between districts and gives its own aerial view of the bridges and the city. The visit is free at any time; early morning, when mist sometimes fills the gorge, or just before sunset, when the stone turns golden, are the best times.
