A former royal palace between Fes el Bali and Fes el-Jdid, commissioned by Sultan Moulay Hassan I in the late nineteenth century and completed under his successor, Sultan Abdelaziz. It became a museum of historical arts and crafts in 1915 and holds a collection of more than six thousand five hundred objects. After a full restoration it reopened in February 2025 as the Al Batha Museum of Islamic Arts, showing the famous blue Fes pottery, carved and painted wood, manuscripts and Qur'ans, jewellery, textiles and astronomical instruments such as astrolabes. The palace itself is among its highlights, with a broad zellij-clad courtyard and fountain, arcaded galleries, wooden ceilings and a large Andalusian garden divided by paths and fountains and shaded by huge old trees. A foreign visitor's ticket costs sixty dirhams and fifteen for children according to the National Museums Foundation; it opens from ten to six and closes on Tuesdays. It is a few minutes from Bab Bou Jeloud.
