A late nineteenth-century palace on Place el-Hedim, built in 1882 for the Jamaï family, which gave ministers to the Moroccan royal government, and one of the finest traditional Moroccan palaces in Meknes. It has been a museum since the 1920s. After a restoration begun in 2019 it reopened in March 2022 as the National Museum of Music, showing traditional Moroccan instruments from across the regions: the oud, rebab and kamanja, drums and bendirs, the iron castanets used by Gnaoua bands and mountain flutes, and explaining Moroccan musical styles from Andalusian to Amazigh. The palace itself is a gem, with a courtyard around an Andalusian garden with trees and a fountain, carved and painted wooden doors, halls clad in zellij and carved stucco, and above all the upstairs salon with its decorated wooden dome painted in red. An adult ticket costs thirty dirhams according to the National Museums Foundation, open from ten to six and closed on Tuesdays. It stands on the edge of Place el-Hedim, pairing with Bab Mansour.
