A monastery on a **rocky point** projecting into the sea at the eastern end of Bol, and its setting alone justifies the walk — sea on three sides and Vidova Gora behind. The Dominicans founded it in **1475** after the town granted them the land, adding a church, cloisters, a garden and a vineyard still worked today. Its small museum holds the piece it is known for: an altarpiece of the **Virgin with Saints** attributed to **Tintoretto** — an attribution **disputed** among historians, some holding it his own work and others his workshop''s or a follower''s. The painting is good regardless of the attribution. The museum also holds a collection of **Greek and Roman coins**, archaeological finds from the island, and manuscripts. The monastery''s vineyard produces a local wine sold at the entrance. Note: it is about ten minutes'' walk from central Bol along the waterfront. Note: **its hours are seasonal and short**, and it closes over lunch.

**Bol** is the town most visitors actually want: Zlatni Rat is a walk away, the setting is far better (sea in front, mountain behind), there are more restaurants, and wind sports are available. The cost is that it is **dearer and more crowded** in July and August, and **further from the ferry** — 40 km on a mountain road, an hour by bus after the crossing. **Supetar** is cheaper, closer and quieter, with the ferry docking there so you arrive from Split in about an hour, but its setting is ordinary and its beaches lesser. ⚠ The practical rule: **two nights or more → Bol**. **One night or a day visit → Supetar**. ⚠ And anyone arriving by summer catamaran from Split lands **directly at Bol**, which removes the problem entirely for those who need no car.
