A Qing-era hall on a high platform on the site of the Northern Song imperial palace, from the years after 960 when Kaifeng was China's capital under the name Dongjing, the «Eastern Capital», a thriving city of perhaps more than 400,000 people whose life the painter Zhang Zeduan captured in his famous scroll «Along the River During the Qingming Festival». Visitors climb a long stone stairway, its centre carved with dragons, to the yellow-roofed hall, which looks out over Longting Park, its lakes and the old city, and every autumn the park hosts Kaifeng's best-known chrysanthemum show. Tickets cost CNY 40 in season and 35 at other times, rising to 55 during the chrysanthemum show, and the park is open from 8.30 am to 6.30 pm in summer and 9 am to 4 pm in winter, per visitor guides.
