You do not need a separate trip. The museum is inside the forest, and most of the walking between its buildings is walking in Dumbrava itself. If you want a longer trail, the lake or the zoo, allow extra time after the museum.
On one or two days in Sibiu, the Large and Small Squares, the Liars' Bridge, the Evangelical church and the Brukenthal museum come first. The forest suits a longer stay or a family day.

A protected oak forest south-west of Sibiu, the city's main green space and the setting inside which the ASTRA open-air museum sits. The forest itself is old and largely oak, with walking and cycling trails, a small lake and Sibiu's zoo. People from the city use it the way residents of any European city use their central park: for running, for outings and for weekends. Its value to a visitor is tied mainly to the ASTRA museum: the museum lies inside this forest, and much of the walking you do there is in fact walking in Dumbrava. Anyone visiting the museum sees the forest automatically. That means it is not a separate destination for a visitor with one or two days in Sibiu. But it is a good option for a longer stay, for travelling with children, or for an hour of air away from the historic squares.
