The Estação Cabo Branco - Science, Culture and Arts is one of João Pessoa's landmarks: a cultural centre designed by the architect Oscar Niemeyer and opened on 3 July 2008 near the Cabo Branco Lighthouse, close to the easternmost point of the Americas. Its mission is to bring culture, art, science and technology to the public free of charge, so it hosts changing exhibitions and activities, and its lookout tower gives a panoramic view of the city and the Atlantic; the tower has reopened after maintenance work. A second building opposite, for events and congresses and surrounded by an artificial lake, opened in 2012. Entry is free, and one visit can take in the Estação, the Cabo Branco Lighthouse and Ponta do Seixas.
