The «Riverside Stadium», home of Sport Club Internacional, sits on the bank of the Guaíba on land reclaimed from the river, and its official name, Estádio José Pinheiro Borda, honours the Portuguese engineer who supervised its building and died before it was finished. Landfill began in late 1957 after the city gave the club eight hectares inside the river, and sceptics joked that fans were buying «floating seats». The stadium holds about 50,000 people and set its record in 1972, when 106,554 watched a state team play Brazil; it was one of the twelve venues of the 2014 World Cup, hosting five matches. It was flooded in the May 2024 floods that hit Porto Alegre and has since been restored. The club museum is inside, open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-18:00, and the «Visita Colorada» tour comes in several formats: the stadium alone, stadium and museum, or an extended route, with prices from about R$20 for the museum to about R$50 for the full tour. The stadium looks onto the Orla do Guaíba promenade and its famous sunsets.
