Terraced gardens on top of Malabar Hill in South Mumbai, also called the Pherozeshah Mehta Gardens, laid out in 1881 over the city's main reservoir, with views over the Arabian Sea and the sunset. The gardens are known for hedges clipped into the shapes of animals such as an elephant, a giraffe and an ox, and shaded paths among trees and neat flower beds; it's a calm spot for morning walks and family outings. Opposite is the small Kamala Nehru Park, which has the finest view of Marine Drive and the whole «Queen's Necklace», especially after sunset when the promenade's lights curve around the bay. Entry is free, and it opens from early morning until evening. Come just before sunset, then cross to Kamala Nehru Park to watch the lights of Marine Drive come on.
