Hua Hin's best-known market, spreading every evening along a narrow street in the town centre near the railway station, with stalls of clothes, souvenirs and crafts, and above all fresh seafood: lobsters, crabs and fish laid out on ice, which you choose and have grilled in front of you. The market is old and popular, smaller than those of Bangkok and Chiang Mai, but pleasant and easy to wander, frequented by locals and visitors alike. The town has a newer market, the Cicada Market, open at weekends with arty crafts and performances. Wandering is free, and the market opens every evening from about five until eleven. Seafood restaurants price by weight, so ask the price before ordering; bargaining is fine at the goods stalls. Check halal status at the food stalls, as most are general Thai; well-known halal restaurants are nearby in town. The market is minutes from the beach and station, a fitting end to a day in town.

Fish and seafood are permissible, but ask about the oil, sauces and grilling, and avoid dishes cooked with other meats. Known halal restaurants in town are the safest.
