The Islamic Center of Brazil mosque is the capital's mosque, opened in 1985 in Asa Norte, the city's northern wing. In a city with many embassies of Muslim countries, it brings together diplomats, residents and students from many countries along with Brazilians who have embraced Islam. The mosque has a dome and a minaret in the Islamic style, and holds the five daily prayers and Friday prayer, along with cultural activities and talks. It is open to worshippers and to visitors of other faiths who respect its rules of dress and behaviour. It receives visitors Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 17:00; it is best to avoid prayer times. Modest dress is required, with a headscarf for women.
