Parque Olhos D'Água, «water springs», is a public ecological and leisure park in Brasília's Asa Norte, established on 12 September 1994 on 28 hectares and one of the busiest spots in the area. Local residents called for it in the 1990s, and a 1993 law authorised it. It was created to protect a small lake, springs, streams and their biodiversity, and to preserve the riverside woods and the basin of Lake Paranoá. It keeps the cerrado, Brazil's savanna, typical of the region. Seven more hectares were later added after residents protested to protect a stream source there. It has walking trails, a playground, exercise equipment, kiosks and running tracks, and hosts cultural events, classes and sports activities. It makes a morning in nature in the middle of the planned capital.
