A peaceful oasis on the seafront in Larvotto, a traditional Japanese garden opened in 1994, designed by the Japanese landscape architect Yasuo Beppu on Shinto and Zen principles, in memory of Princess Grace, who loved flowers and gardens. In a small space the garden brings together every element of Japanese nature: a pond of colourful koi, small waterfalls, red wooden bridges, stone lanterns, carefully clipped trees, a dry garden of raked gravel and a traditional teahouse. The garden's colours change with the seasons, from spring blossom to red autumn leaves, and visitors come for calm and contemplation away from the bustle of Monte Carlo, a few steps from Larvotto beach and the Grimaldi Forum. Entry is free, and the garden is open daily from morning until just before sunset. Photography is allowed, while respecting the calm and keeping off the raked gravel.
