A real virgin rainforest in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, on Bukit Nanas hill where the KL Tower stands, the last patch of the original forest in the city centre. The hill is only about ninety-four metres high, but stepping in takes you in minutes from skyscrapers to giant trees and the calls of birds and monkeys. Its highlight is the canopy walk, about two hundred metres long, strung through the treetops so that you walk above the forest with the city's towers peering through the branches, a scene you will hardly find in any other city. The forest also has short walking trails and a visitor centre. Entry is about forty ringgit for foreigners and ten for MyKad holders, cash only. The park opens daily from eight to half past four and closes on Fridays, a detail many visitors miss. Come in the morning before the heat, wear comfortable shoes, and beware of the macaques, so keep food out of sight. It pairs with the neighbouring KL Tower in one visit.
