Kruševo is a town in western North Macedonia, the seat of Kruševo Municipality, overlooking the Pelagonia region, about 26 km west of Prilep and 38 km north of Bitola in a straight line. Its name means «place of pear trees» in Macedonian. Kruševo is the highest town in the country and one of the highest in the Balkans, at over 1,350 metres above sea level. The area was part of the Byzantine Empire, changed hands several times and came under Ottoman rule in 1395. In Aromanian it is called Crushuva. White houses with red roofs and wooden balconies step down a steep mountainside ringed by pine forest, with narrow stone lanes winding between them. From the town's upper edges a wide view opens over the Pelagonia plain to the horizon. Visitors wander the climbing lanes among the traditional houses and walk up the surrounding hills for the view. The altitude keeps summers fresh, snow covers the town in winter, and it makes a trip from Bitola or Prilep.
