Slovakia's second-highest peak, reachable without climbing: Lomnický štít rises 2,634 metres, and from it the whole Tatra range appears with the plains of Poland to the north and Slovakia to the south — the cable car runs to the summit itself, which no other peak of this height in the region offers. The ascent runs in two stages from Tatranská Lomnica: a large cable car to Skalnaté pleso (1,751 m), where a lake, a station, a restaurant and an astronomical observatory sit, then a small four-person cabin climbing the rock wall to the summit — the stage that must be booked for a fixed slot, because its capacity is very small. At the top are a small platform, a café and the shortest visiting route in the mountains: each group is allowed only about fifteen minutes before descending. Weather governs everything: trips are cancelled in wind and cloud without notice, so book an early clear day and check in the morning.
